Overview

Joes Italian Restaurant, nestled on E Main St in Mesa, AZ, offers a genuine taste of classic Italian cuisine in a cozy, family-run setting. This bright and inviting spot provides a heartfelt dining experience that feels both personal and welcoming. Run by a tight-knit family team, with mom cooking and her sons serving, the atmosphere brims with warmth and attentiveness, making it an ideal choice for locals and families seeking authentic comfort food.

The menu shines with traditional Italian dishes, especially their calzones, which are generously stuffed with high-quality meats, cheeses, and savory fillings. From the hearty Texas Calzone loaded with pepperoni, sausage, and bacon, to the simpler mozzarella and ricotta option, each delivers a satisfying blend of flavors. Pasta lovers will find plenty to enjoy as well, with standout items like spaghetti with meat sauce featuring chunky ground beef, lasagna that layers rich cheese and sauce flawlessly, and a baked ziti that caters to vegetarians.

What truly elevates the experience is the evident attention to homemade preparation—meatballs crafted with fine Italian seasoning and served in a robust marinara sauce, fresh salad greens accompanied by house-made dressings, and desserts like tiramisu and cannoli that balance sweet and creamy textures perfectly. Guests repeatedly praise the freshness and generous portion sizes, which combine to offer excellent value.

While the food and service receive high marks, some patrons have noted areas for ambiance improvement. The current décor includes subtle touches that don’t entirely evoke the Italian spirit, such as orchids on the tables and a television screen showing cabin-style visuals. Suggestions would be to incorporate Italian or Albanian cultural elements and perhaps some gentle instrumental music to deepen the sensory connection to the cuisine’s roots. Another point is a persistent, unexplained odor that can linger in the dining space, which slightly detracts from the overall comfort.

Joes Italian Restaurant appeals most to those craving hearty, traditional Italian food delivered with genuine care and family pride. Its approachable menu, friendly service, and warm environment make it a standout in Mesa, especially for community members looking for a newcomer with strong local ties and palpable passion for authentic flavors. With a bit more attention to atmosphere, this gem has the potential to become a cherished staple for years to come.

Fantastic classic Italian food! My wife ordered the marinara spaghetti and for myself a meatball sub. The meatball sub was 10/10. Fresh meat, good sauce and cheese. Everything made in house and it shows in the taste and smiles. The family and crew were all very nice and on point with anything we needed/wanted. Not just the best Italian restaurant in Mesa but the best restaurant in the city imo.

Only opened 2 months and very pleased with service, food and costs. Table bread was fresh, my lasagna was excellent. My sister's salad was plentiful and delicious as well. I am looking forward to returning to try other menu items. Highly recommended.

This mom and pop restaurant was great! Mom was the chef and her two sons were our servers. They are very friendly and prompt with service. The place itself is super clean and very cute and cozy. Portion sizes were huge and the prices were extremely reasonable. We had calamari, a house salad, spaghetti, spaghetti and meatballs, and chicken parmesan. The spaghetti with meat sauce was super tasty and actually had chunks of hamburger meat. The meatballs were about the size of a lemon. The chicken parmesan had two cutlets of chicken. The salad was fresh and crisp, and the blue cheese dressing was delicious.

Party of 10 handled professionally. Pizza was huge and incredibly delicious. So was the steak and cheese and the meatballs and spaghetti? Thanks for a great job.

I LOVE this place! Super convenient for us, we try to go weekly. My partner is still trying to find something on the menu that he really likes, but I personally love their pastas. (Just FYI, their baked ziti does not contain meat. Though, you might be able to request it? My partner was a bit disappointed when he got it.) My main critique is the atmosphere. The biggest one being that there’s always a foul odor when we come and I’m not sure what it is from or why it never goes away. Almost like it’s coming from the vents? Really hard to truly enjoy your meal when there’s something around you that smells. I also really love the workers and owners here, They’re amazing and so kind. I believe they are Albanian and I would strongly encourage them to display their culture more! Or, give the place more of a traditional Italian feel. Currently, the Asian/Oriental vibe is still lingering (I think it’s the orchids on the table), also the TV screen is always on like a cozy/cabin screen saver and it doesn’t seem to belong. I think maybe having a screen that shows like Sicilian, Italian, or Albanian regions either city or countryside. Maybe even some instrumental music to bring it more of that feeling! I hope they are here to stay because we love having them in our community, they’re just across the road!

During these hard Economic times, I like to support small businesses over chains and fast food joints. I decided to pick up lunch for my husband and myself since I had wanted to try this local restaurant for a couple of weeks now. Entering the establishment, I received a nice welcoming greeting from the Cashier. I perused the menu, which had a good selection of Pasta dishes, Salads, Appetizers, Seafood entrees, Pizza and Desserts. The dining room was clean, spacious and attractive. While I waited for my Greek Salad with Grilled Chicken and Meatball Sandwich to arrive, the Cashier offered to refill my Lemonade as I watched a soccer game on the television in the corner. After a 15-minute wait, the food was given to me packaged in two large aluminum pie pans with lids. The Greek Salad was huge and was filled with fresh tomatoes, cucumbers, Kalamata olives, red onion, Feta cheese and Romaine lettuce. The grilled chicken was delicious and it was served with a cup of Balsamic dressing. The Meatball submarine had fresh toasted bread with a number of meatballs and a good serving of melted Mozzarella cheese on top. The Italian sauce was flavorful and hearty. I was very impressed and next time will try one of their desserts like the Tirimisu.

This place is A Must-Try Spot for Comforting Italian Food My husband and I recently had lunch at Joe’s Italian Restaurant, and we were both seriously impressed. It’s a cozy, family-owned place with a really welcoming atmosphere, the kind of restaurant where you immediately feel at home. The staff were all super friendly and made us feel taken care of from the moment we walked in. We started with their complimentary bread and butter, and honestly, even that was amazing. The bread was warm and fluffy with a nice crust, and the butter was soft and flavorful, simple, but done right. For our mains, my husband ordered the Chicken Marsala, and it was perfect for him since he loves mushrooms. The chicken was tender, and the sauce had so much flavor without being too heavy. He kept saying how good it was after every bite. I went with the Meatball Parm because I saw a bunch of great reviews about it and they were right. It was meaty, cheesy, and just really satisfying. The kind of dish that makes you want to take your time and enjoy every bite. We also shared a Supreme Pizza, and it was another hit. You could tell the dough was hand-kneaded it had that nice chew and crispness and the mozzarella was clearly fresh. Everything about it tasted homemade and thoughtful. For dessert, we split the cannoli, and it was so good. Crunchy shell, creamy filling, not too sweet just right. And it was big enough for two people to share, which was a nice surprise. One thing that stood out to us was the portion sizes. Every dish was generous, and we definitely left full (with leftovers!). It’s the kind of place where you really get your money’s worth. If you’re looking for comforting, delicious Italian food in a friendly, laid-back setting, Joe’s Italian is definitely worth checking out. We’ll be back for sure!
